Extended Validation

Don't See the Green Bar?

Some browsers and sites don’t use VeriSign® Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates yet. Below, find out what you can do to make your Internet experience more secure.

Please answer a couple of questions:

1) Are you using Micrsoft® Internet Explorer® 7? Internet Explorer 7 is the only browser that currently supports (EV) SSL Certificates. Any other browser will treat (EV) SSL Certificates the same as they would any existing (EV) SSL Certificate. To get the full benefits of EV, get Internet Explorer 7. (If you’re unsure which browser you use, you can verify your browser type by using the Help function and selecting "About Internet Explorer.")

2) Are you using Mozilla® Firefox®? Download the plug-in here and Firefox will allow you to enjoy the full benefits of EV. Later this year, Mozilla will release Firefox 3 with built-in (EV) functionality.

3) Are the sites you frequent using EV? If not, the best way to get them to make your online experience more secure is to email them and request they use EV from VeriSign.

Quick Links

Use this tool to quickly find out if your favorite e-commerce, banking, or other Web sites have been issued VeriSign (EV) SSL Certificates. Just enter the Web address and click "verify."
Note: Verify Before You Buy is currently limited to generic top-level domain VeriSign EV SSL Certificates. If the URL that you're investigating has a country code top-level domain, such as .co.uk or .de, you should use alternate means of evaluating the security of the Web site. Learn more >>
